Q: I have no modern language teaching experience – will still be able to use LinguaSign?

A: As a class joins in with a play, the avatars replace the teacher as the ‘first voice’ of the new language.

Q: Why use sign language in the teaching?

A: Research shows that KS2 understanding and retention is improved when new language is accompanied by gestures.

Q: Isn’t LinguaSign just a simple cartoon?

A: The signing, native speaker avatars are not just cartoon characters: they are sophisticated 3D animations, more lifelike, more appealing and more easily imitated.

Q: Will the class be able to adapt to a new way of learning?

A: LinguaSign allows a whole class to learn new words and phrases using an ‘immersive’ approach. This is similar to how we learn our first language: by listening to and copying frequently repeated words around us.

Q: What depth of learning can we expect from LinguaSign?

A: Each LinguaSign play contains a vocabulary of about 50 new words (200 over 4 stories) reflecting the informal speech patterns of a child.

Q: How often do I use the materials?

A: It is recommended that classes revisit the same play several times (6-10 repetitions on average), watching,      listening and taking turns (as a whole class) to imitate the native speaker voices and gestures of the avatars. The full suite of 4 plays provide 2 terms learning for KS2.

Q: Will children feel isolated by having to repeat unfamiliar words in the classroom?

A: When ‘echoing’ the plays, no-one speaks on their own.

Q: What languages can LinguaSign be used for?

A: Languages are currently available in English, French, Portuguese and Dutch. Our unique software enables the rapid development of new languages – which means resources for minority languages can be cost effectively developed to the same standard as more mainstream languages.
